He Cashed A Stolen Check
posted (November 30, 2012)
32 year-old Darren Gonzalez is facing criminal charges tonight after police said that he knowingly cashed a stolen check. According to police, Elisabeth Villanueva reported that on August 31, someone stole several personal checks from her Atlantic Bank checkbook.

Well, police say that sometime between August 31 and October 12, Gonzalez forged his name onto one of those checks as the recipient, and cashed out $600 of Villanueva's money from her account.

As a result, he was arraigned this afternoon before Magistrate Adolph Lucas on charges of forgery, theft and claiming upon a false document.

The charges will be treated as indictable, so no plea was taken, but Gonzalez was granted bail of $5,000. He was not able to meet bail today, so he was taken to prison this evening.

And there is another man facing charges in relation to those stolen checks. 27 year old Sherlock Herrera was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer on Tuesday for the very same charges as Gonzalez. Police say that he used one of those stolen checks to cash out $480 of Villanueva's money from her account.

He was granted bail of $1,500 dollars.
