Man Gets Off Prison Murder Rap
posted (December 5, 2012)
23 year-old Krismar Espinosa, who was charged with the prison stabbing murder of Keon Kyle Swasey, was acquitted of the charge today in the courtroom of Justice Troadio Gonzalez.

Crown Counsel Thalia Meagan Francis called several witnesses in the case which started on Monday, but none of them provided the court with any incriminating evidence against Espinosa.

As a result, when she closed her case today, Espinosa's attorney, Rachel Montejo, made a no-case submission, and after considering all the evidence, Justice Gonzalez upheld it.

He directed the jury of 12 to return a not guilty verdict against Espinosa this afternoon, and he was freed of the charge.

He was not able to go home because he is still awaiting trial for another murder which occurred in Orange Walk in September of 2007.

According to police, Swasey was in his cell at the prison at around 9 a.m. on December 24, 2009, when his assailant ambushed him and fatally stabbed him with a prison knife known as a "bora".
