On Sunday afternoon, a small child was killed as she ran across the Western Highway in Teakettle Village.
Police say Sherica Gentle ran out from behind a pickup truck - right into the path of an approaching pickup.
The child died on impact.
And while that is the driver's account, relatives say that the child was knocked down near a pedestrian crossing and the driver should have been more cautious.

"I wasn't there, she was with her aunt. She went from Friday with her granny; she says that they will be having a party, so they took her along."

"You were at home when you received the news?"

"Yes I was at home then I went to the hospital. She was already dead. The only thing that is bothering me is that I only want to see the guy face. I will not do him any harm - that would make me feel better to hear what he has to say and I will tell him what I have to say also."

"What you understand happened? I understand that relatives were around when this incident happen."

"The aunt went across the road; my father-in-law was loading a cabinet on truck - the same time she ran out, she got knock down. That is what they told me but I don't know if that's the way it went. they say its like that and so I have to believe that."

"I understand she is your oldest and your only baby girl. Could you just describe what you are going through and what your family is going through?"

"They are on their own. I know exactly what I am dealing with."

"You want police to investigate and see exactly what happen being that you weren't there; you just have to go with what they are telling you?"

"The police will do their job but I will do my own investigation - not right now because my head is hurting me."

"You plan to bury her this week?"

"I don't know what the family plans are. I would want to bury her in the yard right at home. I don't want to take her to the cemetery."

"She was going to pre-school."
Sherica Gentle was a preschooler in Ontario Village - and was visiting an aunt in Teakettle. She lived with her family in Ontario Village.
58 year old Israel Gonzales from was driving the pickup from Cayo to his home in Orange Walk.
He has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
