posted (December 28, 2012)
In 2012, Ladyville has emerged as the deadliest village in Belize - as it has recorded some of the most outrageous killings ever reported in Belize. Last night there was another wanton act of violence that injured 4 and killed one. 7news was on the scene and Monica Bodden found out more from one of the targets today:..

Monica Bodden reporting
This quiet residential neighborhood known as the Milpa area in Ladyville was turned into a crime scene after 7:30 last night. Police officers responded after 5 persons - one of them a small child - were shot- one of their injuries proved to be fatal. Our news team arrived on the scene shortly after the shootout.

Neighbors say they heard over a dozen gunshots ring out.

Police officers stood guard at the entrance of the lane. While the police scenes of crime van rolled in from the City - Neighbors looked on from their verandahs and through the louvers of their windows as the police scenes of crimes team scoured the area for evidence for over two hours.

They retrieved two slugs, and a total of 12 expended shells: four S&B brand, three Aguila brand and five Luger brand.

In the meantime, 21 year old Allen Davis and 25 year old Jamie Chavarria were rushed to the KMHM with gunshot wounds.

A 4 year old minor had been grazed to his left hand along with two other young women.

Emily Gabourel - Neighbor
"It happened about 6:30 and I was in my house with my grandbaby when I heard the shots. My husband says that they stand out there and just empty out shots on him."

Monica Bodden
"One gunman?"

Emily Gabourel - Neighbor
"It was two of them but one stayed in the vehicle. My son faces the person and yelled gunman and at that time everyone moved away because a gunman was coming after them."

It was in front of this bungalow that 21 year old Allen Davis better known as Debo and 24 year old Jamie Chavarria were socializing - playing a game of cards along with others - when a white car pulled up at the entrance of the lane and stopped.

A gunman wearing a stocking over his head exited the vehicle - ran up to the group and opened fire. Davis was shot in the head, chest, private area and both legs. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the KHMH.

Jamie Chavarria was also shot to his left leg -the bullet exited through his buttocks. He was released from the hospital and today gave us an account of what he recalled happened last night.

Jamie Chavarria - Shooting Victim
"The first shot hit my homeboy in his head and he drop to the ground. The second shot caught me. When I took off to run the gun man came and chases me but he couldn't find me because I hide behind the house. I saw the gunman stand up over my home boy and empty the gun on him but he didn't die on the spot. When we took him to the hospital he was still breathing."

"When we reach at the hospital they took him out and we were still talking and then they took him for surgery. After that the doctor came out and say that they can't do anything more for him because he got 3 shots in his head; he took about 18 shots, all the rest in his body. 2am this morning they call me and say that he is dead."

"I am hearing about a white Corolla car without license plate and I am hearing about some guys in particular dress clothing. Did you recognize any of them?"

Jamie Chavarria - Shooting Victim
"I didn't recognize anyone. The only thing I saw was a tall person with a dread cap on, I never saw the face or anything like that."

In 2009 Chavarria walked free from the double homicide of thirty two year old Dorian Michael and twenty four year old Keiva Leslie. But even though Chavarria has had his run in's with the law, police do not believe he or Davis were the intended targets. According to police, last night's shooting is not a random act; the intended target was Rene Chavarria Jr the brother of Jaime Chavarria.

Jamie Chavarria - Shooting Victim
"I can't really say about what went on because I left confuse and shock. We were just enjoying ourselves and that just happen right there."

Marion Ali, reporter
"Now you saw your friend getting killed right in front of your face and you yourself got shot; this must have some kind of effect on you. How are you coping?"

Jamie Chavarria - Shooting Victim
"It has an effect on me because he was like my brother, he lives with me, he is always with me. I just want to tell the persons who did it; the father is not sleeping and payback is a must, the world is a cycle - that's all I got to tell them."

21 year old Davis was a bouncer at the Blue House Bar in Ladyville and lived at this wooden upstairs house only yards away from where he was murdered. His family believes that their loved one was innocently gunned down for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Neighbor
"I am just saying that "Debo" is a person that from the time we knew him around here he is works for his money. He is a very nice young man, you could have ask him to do you any favors and anything. He didn't deserve for this to happen to him."

Marion Ali, reporter
"Last night when they came, they just shot him and then he fell?"

Neighbor
"When they shoot on all of them around the gambling table, one of the shot caught him and then he drop, then you hear silence, then afterwards they walk over his body and finish out all the shot on him."

Marion Ali, reporter
"How many shots you heard?"

Neighbor
"In total about 20 shots."

Sister of the Deceased
"They just chance my brother out of his life. It's the friends that he hangs around with - they didn't tell him what was happening because the shots weren't meant for him. It's like what they say; if you can't catch Harry, you catch his shirt."

Emily Gabourel - Neighbor
"The guy is not anything to me but when they put him out of his house - none of his family was at his side. I had that guy in my house for two years and 6 months; I took him like a mother. I gave him that house over there and then now the family is coming like an idiot, like a jackass to be acting like that. All of a sudden that he is dead - the family comes like they so love him."

Reporter
"Tell us about "Debo" the type of person that he was - that you remember him as?"

Neighbor
"He was a nice person who always gave a helping hand to anyone that needed help. He is a very calm and mild young man."

All the shooting victims were treated and released. Police are looking for a white Toyota Corrolla that is believed to have been the getaway vehicle. It didn't have any license plates.
