Eastern Division Gets New Commander
posted (January 14, 2013)
And with those tidy arrests Aragon leaves for Police Headquarters in Belmopan on a high note. But his 28 months at the helm of Eastern Division could not be considered stellar. Case in point?: Belize City recorded a record number of murders in 2012 with 75. Now, maybe the problem is just too intractable and the high murder rate is not a reflection of his effectiveness - but at today's change of command - we did hear the new O/C take a slightly different tack:..

Elodio Aragon Jr., Deputy Commissioner of Police
"I know it is challenging times and I know Mr. Segura, Mrs. Phillips and Mr. Allen have a task at hand but I ask them fear not the task at hand. Look it as a great opportunity to make a big difference in Belize City."

ACP Miguel Segura, Incoming Officer Commanding Eastern Division "If you see that today you have two deputies on board and the concept is to advance the community policing. We have Senior Superintendent Mrs. Phillips, who have a lot of knowledge and exposure in that field and then you have Senior Superintendent Allen also that will look at the intelligence and operations. What we need to do is to get closer to the community. This is the concept of the policing also."

Elodio Aragon Jr., Deputy Commissioner of Police
"I am quite sure and confident that Mr. Segura and his team will be putting in all the effort they have in looking at how and ways to reduce crime in Belize City especially in the city because you all know this city accounts for a lot of the crime."

Segura will have two Deputies: Senior Superintendent Desiree Phillips who moves from Commander of Community Police and Senior Superintendent Marlon Allen who moves from Head of Special Branch.
