Chicken Dread Goes Legal
posted (January 16, 2013)
Since December of last year, Paul Ferguson, known as the Chicken Dread, has been at war with the Belize City Council.

We've shown you numerous confrontations he's had with the police officers because according to City Hall, he's been selling his chicken without a proper permit.

Well this evening, he prepared his stall for the first time with the blessing of the council.

7News caught up with him and for once, he wasn't being confrontational:

Paul Ferguson - Obtained His Peddler's Permit
"It's a wonderful day, beautiful day. First, I want to thank the City Administrator and the Mayor for getting me my peddler's license. And I also want to thank my legal advisor, Mrs. Mellissa Mahler, and my best friend, Anthony Mahler for their support and pushing for me to acquire this peddler's license."

Daniel Ortiz
"I noticed that you've changed quite a bit in term of your tactics. First, you were a bit stand-offish when it comes to City Hall, and now, it seems you've negotiated with them. And you seemed to have reached an amicable agreement, and you're now thanking them, which, first, when we met you, you were upset."

Paul Ferguson
"It's not being cocky, it's about understanding. I will stand up for my rights, and I believe in doing the right thing. My legal advisor advised me about the proper way to go about things. It's just best to get a peddler's license. I tried before, and I was turned down. They asked me to meet certain requirements, which I did. They asked me to get a fire extinguisher. I have one. I have my health certificate, and I have my peddler's license. So, I want to let my people that I am too legit to quit. We're not going to quit. There are better things coming for Ferguson, and for Shirley's Fried Chicken. I just want to say that this is my peddler's license. There are better things coming."

Daniel Ortiz
"Tell us about those charges that you're still facing at court. What's going to happen with those?"

Paul Ferguson
"Well, the charges are still there. I went to court this morning for refusing honor a stop order, and it was adjourned to the 5th. Constantly, the special constables circle around and try to stop me because they that I don't have the proper requirements to sell. Well now, the 2 days that I wasn't out here, I'm here now, and like I said, business is happening."

You can find him at the Battlefield Park with his stall closest to the Belize Bank.
