Another CITCO Cemetery SNAFU
posted (January 16, 2013)
Last night, 7News told you about the response from the Belize City Council in relation to the cemetery mishap at the 13 Miles in relation to the late Zebedee Pitterson Jr. Well, it seems that as soon as City Hall puts out one fire, another starts because another family is claiming mismanagement.

Today, the Sebastian Family spoke to us and said that even with that 48 hour period to make the administrative and construction preparations, they still got it wrong.

Rita Sebastian told us that City Hall mixed up 3 graves and didn't give them what they paid for. According to her, the administration did not inform the contractors properly, and they prepared the wrong grave, which they didn't pay for.

Here's how she explained the details of the situation:

Rita Sebastian - Claims Cemetery Mismanagement
"My brother passed away on Friday. We made arrangements with the funeral home to deal with the body, pay for the removal an already-entombed grave for my father, which was done for him 6 1/2 years ago when he passed away. At the time, at that was being taken care of by Mr. Coye. The plan was that they would take the top of my father's tomb, and build up so that we could have set him in and cover it. When we went to the cemetery this morning, we saw it. We asked the person who was doing it. I was querying, and he said that this was for the funeral for today. It was just blocks laid around, and the inside was still wet with cement. But when I got there, I told him that this location was not spot that we had made arrangements for them to use. I told them, and showed them. They were supposed to take off the Bible, break down whatever was there from 6 years ago, and build around it. So, when we got there today, they were supposed have that piece properly done. When we went to the church, and we went back up to bury my brother, I was surprised that the empty space, which was reserved for my mother from that time, because she had done a surgery, and there was the possibility that she wouldn't have made it through. But, by God's grace she made it through. What we did, that spot was already paid for, and it was sealed off. When we got up there to put my brother in the ground, I was surprised to see that the space, which was paid for 6 years ago for my mother, was busted out, already painted, and they set everything there, ease him down, and they did the top. That space wasn't supposed to be touched. That wasn't what we paid for."

10 minutes ago, 7News contacted the Councilor with responsibility for the Cemetery, Deputy Mayor Dion Leslie, who told us that there was an error in their database which caused the error on the ground. He then referred us to the new Press Officer, Kenny Morgan.

Leslie promised that Morgan would call back; he did but he was driving and couldn't speak at the time.
