Woman Gets Five Years For Ammo
posted (January 23, 2013)
We take a break now from all the politics for some court news - about a woman who's serving time for possession of unlicensed ammunition.

25 year-old Natalie Coleman is serving a 5 year sentence after she was convicted of firearm offences in the Magistrates Court today.

In December of 2011, police visited her home and found four 12-gauge shotgun cartridges.

She was charged jointly with her boyfriend, 22 year-old Randy Dominguez, for keeping unlicensed ammunition, but Dominguez's attorney was able to get the charge withdrawn when they showed the court that he was not present at the time of the search.

So, Coleman alone stood trial for the ammunition, and the police officers who made the bust came and testified to it before Magistrate Cayetano.

In her defence, she told the court that at the time when the police conducted the search, she was present only because she was visiting her boyfriend.

After considering the evidence, Magistrate Cayetano ruled that the prosecution's case proved beyond a reasonable doubt that she was present at the time, and she had knowledge of the ammunition.

As a result, she was sentenced to serve 5 years in prison.
