Ten brand-new fully compact motorcycles were handed over - a total value of eighty thousand Belize dollars. ACP Segura told the media what the department plans to do with these bikes.

Miguel Segura, Officer Commanding Eastern Division
"First of all I just wish to express our gratitude to the US Embassy through the CARSI project on the donation of these 10 motor cycles. They came at a right time especially when we are seeing that crime is not only in the city - the urban areas but also moving to the rural areas. The deployment of these cycles as we have seen it - some will be in Belize City and some would be deployed to the villages like Maskall and those villages that we are seeing some increase in crimes."

Miguel Segura, Officer Commanding Eastern Division
"What this means, that within the mandate of our service - that police should not have an excuse to respond to have visibility - that the people could see the response capability on time because the re-assurance and the fear of crimes having the police on time. These motorcycles should be the enabling factor to be there when they are needed, so the motorcycles are also are being helpful in the city as we have seen in the business area managing through traffic jam and responding on time and I think that's a plus for us."

"We've been working with the police department on strategy to help improve citizen security and under this program here we identify - last year we had donated trucks and they were having great responses to be at the scenes of crime and apprehend suspects have increase and so as a result of that we continue with that strategy and today we are donating 10 motorcycles.
