Kilo-bwai Killed, And So Was His Killer
posted (February 18, 2013)
Between Friday afternoon at 4:00 and last night at 7:00, ten people were shot in Belize City and two were killed. That's a lot of bloodshed in just 51 hours - and the most serious event happened early on Saturday morning.

That's when 39 year old Lincoln Kilo-bwai Allen was killed, not far from his Pink's Alley home. In the 90's he was a legendary name on the streets - and he used to run with George Junie Balls McKenzie. Mckenzie was killed at the entrance to Pink's Alley in 2007, and on Saturday Allen was killed around the lane from the Alley where both men grew up.

But the Allen story is complicated because the man who killed him - was also killed on the spot by a second person who was caught in the middle and had a licensed weapon. Monica Bodden has the story of one shot and two dead:..

Monica Bodden reporting
The killings happened through Munoz Alley early Saturday morning - around 1:30am. Police found the body of 39 year old Lincoln Allen better known as Kilo Boy -with a gunshot wound behind his head and one inside his mouth. The body of 23 year old Devon Saldano was 2 feet away with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. A third man, Derek Cervantez was also on the scene and was rushed to the KHMH with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Before the shooting, Allen asked Cervantes to buy him a plate of food. The two who are neighbors were standing through Munoz Alley talking and waiting for the food to be dropped off - that was when a car pulled up at the mouth of the alley and two men jumped out. One of them fired a shot at Cervantes and then two shots at Allen.

Cervantes who was shot but managed to pull out his 9mm licensed firearm and shot the gunman - fatally injuring him. That man was later identified as 23 year old Devon Saldano. The other assailant reportedly escaped.

Joan Sankey - Mother of Lincoln Allen
"According to what I hear he was at the "bucket Bar" by the bridge on Friday night. He bumped into a guy that had a drink in his hand and spill his drink and I think he told the guy that he would slap him. He left from there for home. When he came home he was standing with another young man, who also got shot. Keino son said that he saw the vehicle came through here but Keino didn't know. While he was talking to the guy he saw the person coming from the back alley with his hands in his pocket. But he didn't know who the person was. The person saw him and another talking, so he shot him first."

Voice OF: Derek Cervantes - Gunshot Victim "Death, I saw in front of me that night. I ask the almighty to let me see my children before I die. Don't let me die without my kids seeing me. He answered my prayers."

Police recovered six 9mm expended shells and one licensed 9mm pistol with an empty magazine belonging to Cervantes. Saldano's family is not quite sure of what really happened on Saturday morning.

Leroy Gillett - Brother of Devon Saldano
"It's still speculative. The police came and they gave me their scenario and that's what I know. Whatever the media have that's what I know. It is what it is."

Monica Bodden
"I understand this is your second brother that you have lost to violence."

Leroy Gillett - Brother of Devon Saldano
"Actually today makes 11 months since his older brother passed; my older brother. He was shot and killed in this yard right here and that puts life in a real perspective. Not that the first death didn't do it but this second one it took a really toll on me this time - both of them die and don't have any kids. Both of them are the only sons for their father. That hurts."

Gillett lost his only two brothers to gun violence. Today made 11 months since his younger brother passed away. Jovanni Saldano was only 26 years old when he was gunned down inside his yard on West Street. His baby brother 23 year old Devon Saldano now lies in the city morgue while his funeral preparations are undergoing.

"How is the family even coping with this?"

Leroy Gillett - Brother of Devon Saldano
"Prayers, friends, relatives, the community."

Monica Bodden
"Where were you when you received the news?"

Leroy Gillett - Brother of Devon Saldano
"Actually I was home. On Friday night after 11 Devon came him and he came in the house and spend about 2-3 minutes, went out back. He went for food, thats his norm and we found out on Saturday morning when police came with a photograph of him. I had to go to the morgue to verify him. That's cold, I know he has friends and they will see this interview. I will say personally I am mad with friends because he died and I believe some one of them knew, they can't take it back but someone could have come to inform me. He was incarcerated before. He came out of jail about 6 months ago and all his friends were frequent here. Now to find that the police had to come and tell me that my brother will not come home no more - I am mad with his friends, no beef but disappointed on that."

Lincoln Allen was the father of 11 children and was no stranger to police - infact he was known to be one of Magestic's most notorious bad man back in the days. But today many can attest that older Allen was a different person that had made a 360 degree turn with his life.

Joan Sankey - Mother of Lincoln Allen
"Three, this is the third. The first time he got shot was in his rectum and it came out his leg and the second one he got in his hand when he put up his hands to shield his head and his hands got torn up and a bullet was lodge in his neck. He went with many bullets. I feel bad but I ask God to give me strength for me to hold up because we have to be there for him because he already gone."

Monica Bodden
"When was the last time you saw him?"

Joan Sankey - Mother of Lincoln Allen
"Friday he and I were sitting down by the boat place. I told him that I was hungry and he gave me the last $4 from his pocket and he sat down beside me and he held his head and told me that he was tired of this life. I told him not to worry, God will not give you more that you can bare."

Today as these two families mourn the death of their loved ones - they are still trying to put together the pieces of what happened. Both mothers of the deceased men were close friends.

Joan Sankey - Mother of Lincoln Allen
"One thing that I am glad for is that we don't have to go to court to answer to anything because two of them are dead. Would you believe that this young man and all of us grew up together at Wagner's Lane? I see them boys in crib with papers. I and his mom are good friends; Mrs. Claudette Gillett, she is not in good standing in the States right now. She didn't want to go to the States because of this same little boy Devon. Every time I use to go at her house she use to talk about Kilo, because she knew him from a little boy."

Monica Bodden
"I understand that "Kilo" made a 360 degree in terms of changing his lifestyle? You care to tell me when you notice this change in your son?"

Joan Sankey - Mother of Lincoln Allen
"From I had my other son he had changed his life."

Leroy Gillett - Brother of Devon Saldano
"Like I said before that whatever the police gave you. He can't come back, I can't bring him back. It's a very unfortunate incident because young man that was killed with him - we know the family, both parents of the family knows each other well. It's really sad."
