Three Injured in Wild City Shooting
posted (February 18, 2013)
But the Kilo Bwai Allen incident was the third shooting in less than 12 hours. First, Kenroy Tillett and Alton Roches were shot on Friday afternoon, and then on Friday night at 9:40 three people were shot. It happened at the corner of Orange Street and East Canal. A gunman let off with 8 shots at 48 year old Donald Matura injuring him to the abdomen, left hand, right hand, left leg and his testicles. Two other persons who happened to be walking past the very busy area were also shot. They are 26 year old Carmita Chan was shot to her left buttocks while 32 year old Alchea Harris, was grazed to his left hip. We spoke to both of these victims of a shooting targeting someone else:

Alchea Harris - shooting victim
"I was walking over the bridge and the gunman just came and stop and started to shoot."

Carmelita Chan - shooting victim
"I was walking on Orange Street with my husband and my two daughters when we just suddenly heard couple of bangs and my husband says that's gunshot, so he say to run, he grab the baby and hold her. When I tried to run I felt something warm touch my right side of my buttocks. I felt blood and I told my husband that I got shot and he told my older daughter to run. I told her to throw herself on the floor because I fell down right away. We just continue heard 4 more bangs after that and by the time I looked back all I see was a guy laying in the floor - he was a dread guy. About 5 minutes after I cousin passed by and I stopped him and he is the one who rush us to the hospital."

Word on the streets is that the shooting was motivated basically by shame. Matura had reportedly chided the young gunman a shot time earlier for roughing up his girlfriend. The young man didn't take kindly to it and let off with a spray of gunfire.

Matura - who was listed in a critical condition didn't want to give an interview - but did issue a statement. It says, quote, "it is truly sad that someone's tragedy can garner such attention, especially when the allege killers bask in the attention the media gives them," It continues, quote, "If anything can come out of my misfortune, I would want it to be that the news media no longer gives such glory to these shooters and killers, since so many crave the attention…They love seeing their faces and claim to fame at the cost of innocent citizens like myself. "

Matura's statement then end with thanks, saying, quote:

"I would rather want to take this opportunity to focus on the positive in all of this… Dr. Jose Moguel who operated on me for over five hours assisted by Dr. Leah Rosado and the nurses in the operating theater at the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital…the work of these doctors and nurse brought me back to life when I was almost given up for dead… special thanks to the few brave men who against the instructions of the police and BDF, who were the first responders at the scene, they insisted that I was still alive and should be quickly removed from the scene and taken to the hospital. It was their timely decision that made a difference in saving my life."
