GSU Recovers 2 Weapons Stolen From BDF
posted (February 18, 2013)
Tonight, 2 Belize City men are in prison, and 2 weapons believed to have been stolen from the BDF weapons cache are in the hands of law enforcement after an operation by the Gang Suppression Unit.

On Saturday, February 16, GSU officers conducted operations in Seine Bight, and the Placencia area in the Stann Creek District. At around 4:15 p.m., the team searched an area near the Seine Bight cemetery, where they found a garbage bag buried.

Inside that bag, the officers discovered a disassembled Colt brand M-16 rifle without a magazine, and its serial number filed off. They also discovered a 9 mm pistol, also with its serial number filed off, and an empty magazine.

These firearms are believed to be part of the weapons cache which was stolen from the BDF Camp in October of 2011. More importantly, the officers believe that these same weapons were used in the armed robbery of the Toledo Teachers Credit Union Office in Bella Vista Village on June 4, 2012.

As viewers may remember, 2 police officers and a BDF officer attached to BSAG were arrested and charged for that robbery. The GSU says that they continue to investigate the origin of these weapons.

And back in the city this morning at around 5:30 a.m. another GSU team searched the residence of 18 year-old Aaron Reynolds and 19 year-old Trevor BJ Flowers, located at #7255 Kraal Road.

The officers searched the attic, and discovered a black Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol, along with 8 rounds of 9 mm ammunition. As a result, they were arrested and charged with keeping an unlicensed firearm, and keeping unlicensed ammunition, and they were arraigned before Magistrate Dale Cayetano this afternoon.

Both men pleaded not guilty, but due to the nature of the offence, Magistrate Cayetano remanded them to prison until April 2. The GSU believes that both men are members of the South Side Gang.
