22 year-old Marlon Dawson, a mechanic from Gardenia Village, is in jail tonight after he was brought to court today for allegedly having sexual relations with a 13 year-old female minor.
The minor, accompanied by her father, visited the Human Services on last week Friday and reported that on December 14, 2012, Dawson had intercourse with her at a house in the village.
As a result, police investigated the report, and they arrested and charged Dawson with carnal knowledge. He was arraigned today before Magistrate Dale Cayetano this afternoon, who could not offer him bail due to the nature of the offence.
Magistrate Cayetano remanded him to prison until his next court date, which is scheduled for March 28, 2013.
In another disturbing case, a 16 year old girl from Sarteneja Village in the Corozal District is accusing her stepfather of rape. The young girl reported to police that since she turned 15 years old, her step father had been having sex with her against her will - the most recent time reportedly on February 14th, Valentine's Day. She claimed that he would do this every two weeks when he comes in from sea. She also reported to police that it happened in the presence of her mother. A medical examination was confirmed that she had been carnally known. Police are seeking the stepfather for questioning.
