Man Pleads Guilty Firearm
posted (April 23, 2013)
Tonight, 4 Belize City men are in prison after they were taken to court after the Gang Suppression Unit busted them with a gun, and marijuana. It happened at around 2:30 yesterday afternoon when the GSU was patrolling Vernon Street. They searched a fishing boat at the Fish Market in the Conch Shell Bay area which 34 year-old Jeffrey Murrillo, 49 year-old Gerald Allen, 27 year-old Ignatius Garcia, and 29 year-old Windell Gibson were all associated with.

In the hull of the boat, they found a .25 caliber pistol loaded with 3 live rounds, and a bag with less than an ounce of marijuana. All 4 men were arrested and charged with keeping unlicensed firearm, keeping unlicensed ammunition, and possession of a controlled drug.

When they were arraigned this morning, Garcia pleaded guilty to the firearm offences, and Gibson pleaded guilty to the drug possession. Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer sentenced Garcia to spend 3 years for the firearm and 3 years for the ammunition, both of which are to run concurrently. Because Gibson had outstanding fines for other offences, Senior Magistrate Frazer sentenced him to spend 6 months in prison.

Now, with two guilty pleas, usually the other accused are free to go. But, not for Murrillo and Allen. Senior Magistrate Frazer informed them that only the office of Director of Public Prosecutions can withdraw the charges directly. As a result, both men were remanded to prison until June 12, their next court date.
