Burglars Were Looking For Cancer Center Cash
posted (May 14, 2013)
Last night, the Belize Cancer Society had a break in at their Cancer Center. The culprits broke several of the locks and were able to get inside.

But, they didn't take anything, at least, according to the members of the Cancer Society. They said that they didn't find anything missing, and they suspect that the burglars were looking for cash.

Today, the Director put the burglary in perspective, given that they are working towards raising awareness in Cancer Month, leading up to their annual cancer walk.

Here's how she described THE STATE she found the Cancer Center in this morning.

Ivorine Bulwer – Director, Belize Cancer Society
"This morning when I arrived at the office at 8:17am I opened the door and i observed that one of the door that normally is closed was open and that created a concern so I just exited the office and decided to do a spot check. At that time I observed that doors were opened and were damaged. They gained entry into the building and for more observation nothing has been taken. We can only assess and probably they were looking for money but I need to advise the culprit because this is the third break in since the year. January 7th we had the first break in, in February there was another break in and now this morning we observed that there was a break-in in the building. There's no money so I would request that they deter from breaking into the building. It is sad because at this time is May Cancer month we are doing our fund raiser by selling our t-shirts for our cancer clients. The proceeds from our sales are for our cancer patients- we give hope to so many who may not have had hope. It is a sad situation that we have become so insensitive and so cruel. The break-in is not only that - they did not steal anything but the damages cost, we incur expenses that could have otherwise been utilized for patients who honestly need the funding."

The Director estimates that to repair damages will cost them $3,000, which they really can't invest at this moment.
