Chiac Was Killed On The Road’s Shoulder, Not fondly Remembered By His Granny
posted (May 17, 2013)
Last night, 7News told you about 20 year-old Angel Chiac Jr., who was found dead on the side of the road between miles 25 and 26 on the Northern Highway on Tuesday night. His body didn't show any physical signs of violence, so police couldn't say yesterday if it was foul-play or not.

Well, Dr. Mario Estradabran conducted the post-mortem yesterday, in which he concluded that Chiac was choked to death by an assailant. So now, police are treating it as a homicide, in which they are actively pursuing leads.

But, 7News found out today that they will have a difficult time because there weren't many witnesses, and that his body was found in almost total darkness. We spoke with one of the first responders, and with his grandmother, who was very frank about Chiac as a grandson:

Daniel Ortiz
"Can you tell us when and what you guys saw when you went out there on the road side?"

Ruby Seguro - First Responder
"Just a young man laying down on the road side, apparently dead. They called to tell us that someone was knocked down by my house but when we went there it didn't seem that he was knocked down."

Daniel Ortiz
"Describe to us what you saw and what you did in order to preserve the young man's dignity?"

Ruby Seguro
"Well he was laying there and everybody is just coming to look at him so we go a sheet and covered his body. We stayed to assist the police to put tires on the road side and we gave them food."

Daniel Ortiz
"There wasn't light so you couldn't see anything right?"

Ruby Seguro
"Only the lights from the truck and the police and they had to go back to get somebody so the police that stayed only had the police check point sign and the cones but he was in darkness so we put two tire and let it burn until the the other ones came back."

Graciana Sho - Grandmother of Deceased
"He talked foolishness but he treated me good at first but now that he is rich he doesn't want to take care of me; he doesn't want to buy this and that; but when he comes in, he is hungry and asks me if I cooked for him because he comes in around 9:30 or 10:00 at night and he always takes Jex or the ready call bus that passes in the morning that's the one he takes when he goes to work. Two times he took his t-shirt and threw it at my face and I said 'are you crazy or what?'"

Daniel Ortiz
"You are not suppose to treat your Grandmother like that"

Graciana Sho
"That's what I tell him. I was sitting down on my chair like this trying to sleep and when he came through this step here by that first table there, and I didn't notice when he took out his shirt to hit me with it and throw it on the other side of the verandah. I told him not to it and not to do that but nobody can tell him anything. He tells me I am not his mother when I get mad and tell him to find his way if he does not agree to what I am telling him. Thats what I tell him."

Daniel Ortiz
"And he moved out?"

Graciana Sho
"Yes and he went on his way along with another person over that side but I don't know how they treat him there and if he pays rent. Here he is not paying any rent and I don't charge him for food it is I who fee him. I am the one who takes good care of him when he stayed here"

Daniel Ortiz
"Despite all that you will miss him?"

Graciana Sho
"Yes, of course, from since he left."

Chiac moved in with his grandmother 3 years ago, and in January, he moved out because they had their differences.
