Shooting Victim’s Family Says Police Making their Loved One Suffer
posted (May 20, 2013)
Last week, we told you about the shooting at the corner of Oleander and Tulip Streets on Thursday at around 5 p.m. A 16 year-old minor was allegedly shot by police after he turned his gun on them. According to police, this minor was allegedly in a shootout with 25 year-old Ryan Myles, who he allegedly targeted at the corner of Oleander and Tulip Streets. The minor shot Myles miles 3 times in the left thigh, left knee and left ankle.

Police searched an abandoned lot and found a black 380 Ruger brand pistol with 3 live rounds of ammunition. Police believe that this was the weapon that Myles used it to defend himself against the minor, and that he threw it away when he realized that they were coming.

Myles was rushed to the KHMH which could not provide him with much medical treatment because his leg was too swollen. And so the KHMH was supposed to release him from the hospital today until the swelling went down.

But that didn't happen because CIB police detained him for questioning, much to the chagrin of his family. They told 7News today that Myles should not be detained right now, he should be in bed, off his leg which is in awful condition.

Here's how his mother described how the police are mistaken about that pistol found in the abandoned lot:

Voice of Jenevieve Zelaya - Mother
"He was released at about 10:30a.m. and they didn't take him out of the hospital till around 11:45a.m. because the police man said he shouldn't come out because the CIB wanted him for questioning. I told them that after the questioning he needs to get home because he can't stand on his feet because of the gun shot. They brought him this side for questioning at Raccoon Police Station. This evening they told us that they are going to hold him for 48 hours; hold a man that is in there that has a gun shot and can't even walk."

Daniel Ortiz
"What is his condition, has the bullets been removed?"

Voice of Jenevieve Zelaya
"No! They can't remove the bullet because his foot is swollen. The bottom part of his foot where he got the shot and bore through, that was burst and they had to stitch it and that is swollen. They can't remove the bullet, his knee cap is shattered. So how can he ever get up and shoot or throw the gun in any abandoned lot?"

The minor was taken to Family Court this evening where he was arraigned on the charge of keeping an unlicensed firearm.

Due to the nature of the offence, he was remanded to the Wagner's Youth Facility until June 28, 2013.
