Man Escapes Remand By Producing Gun License
posted (May 21, 2013)
38 year-old Chinese Businessman Chao Gui Cao, a resident of Hattieville, dodged jail time today after police took him to court on firearm offences for his licensed weapon.

According to police, they stopped him at the checkpoint at mile 4 on the Western Highway on Saturday evening. When they searched on his vehicle, they officers discovered his 9 millimeter pistol.

The officers believed that the weapon was unlicensed, and they refused to accept his explanation that he did have a license. As a result, they charged him with keeping an unlicensed firearm, and keeping unlicensed ammunition.

He was arraigned today before Magistrate Cayetano, and his attorney, Anthony Sylvester, was able to provide an authentic document from Belmopan Police which proved that he was not breaking any law.

Magistrate Cayetano accepted the document, and he dismissed the charges against Cao. He was able to leave the court a free man after almost being remanded to prison.
