APAMO Disses Stake Bank Project
posted (June 21, 2013)
And going back to the proposed development at Stake Bank and North Drowned Cayes, the Association of Protected Areas Management Organizations (APAMO) has released a statement saying it is, quote, "totally dissatisfied with the public consultation…" End Quote

It adds, "APAMO strongly feels that the responses to questions and clarifications were incomplete and unsatisfactory."

They list 5 concerns stemming from the consultation on Wednesday.

The first is that they've taken issue with the fact that EIA's and the ECP's on these projects are from 2006 to 2007, and are still considered valuable by the Department of Environment, even though they were done 6 years ago.

APAMO also mentions that the second causeway from North Drown Caye to Stake Bank is to run right through Swallow Caye Wildlife Sanctuary, set up to protect the manatee population. According to them, this is being totally ignored.

The organization also believes that the mobile refueling services and fuel storage tanks to be placed on Stake Bank pose a high threat to the protected area, which is not adequately addressed in the EIA, if there is a spill. APAMO demands that the DOE needs to get a complete EIA from the developer, and that a proper consultation be conducted.
