Marilyn Burgess’ House Fell
posted (July 12, 2013)
We've showed you the issues that homeowner Marilyn Burgess has been having since February of this year.

She lives in her house at Faber's Road with 9 other people, which has been in desperate need of repair.

She's been desperately seeking help from her area representative, Minister Anthony "Boots" Martinez, who has told us that she must wait on a list like every other citizen who is need of government assistance.

Well, while she's been patient, apparently, the structural integrity of her house isn't and finally after months in disrepair, it fell.

Yesterday, her family called us out to the location where they explained the few moments before the house gave in:

Raphael Caceras - Homeowner
"Yesterday morning when we got up we heard the cracking of the house and we felt a vibes but when you have Jah behind you, you have that feeling. So when we got downstairs - I took down my brother in law and my daughter and I heard the crack so I told them to come out. When I saw it burst open (this is my brother in law, with the disability) the house cracked open and I told them we couldn't stay there anymore. I tried talking to my neighbor for them to give us some refuge and he said okay so I told my mother in law it would be best to move out before it comes down on us because then it will be more problems."

Daniel Ortiz
"But it did came down?"

Raphael Caceras
"Yes it came down just now - if we didn't move out last night, probably someone would have died."

Daniel Ortiz
"This happened about an hour ago?"

Raphael Caceras
"Like 20 minutes ago."

Daniel Ortiz
"Now, do you have any kids or minors that could have been injured in this."

Raphael Caceras
"This is one and I have my daughter who will be 2 years old."

Daniel Ortiz
"As far as we reported that the Minister Boots Martinez was supposed to have dealt with this from March - it's certainly isn't the case. Have you all been informed as to why?"

Raphael Caceres
"Not really, they just put us on hold. They told us that they would have given it from March, then April, then June now we're in the middle of July and they came about two weeks ago to check it out and they still haven't come around to see anything and haven't given us any response as yet."

Daniel Ortiz
"Now, where does this leave the family?"

Raphael Caceres
"Well I don't know what to say - homeless. If we didn't have a good neighbor we would have been on the street, all ten of us."

We contacted the family a few moments ago, who told us that their area representative has given them a minor relief, and has promised to help them as soon as he can.
