Six to Court For Stash Found In Church Roof
posted (July 29, 2013)
On Friday we told you about the stash of marijuana, ammunition and a pistol found in the eaves of a church building on Victoria Street. As we reported, six people from an adjoining yard were arrested – because police believed they had stashed it there. Today, after a weekend in detention, they were taken to court an arraigned on multiple charges. Over two dozen family members crowded the court, and, off camera, they told us that it was unfair -

Voice of family member
"They didn't find it in our yard - they found it across at the neighbour and it was siz of our family members at one time and the way they are doing it - they're not doing it right."

Voice of family member
"What I know with the law - is they say that when they find a gun in someone's yard, everyone should leave the yard but they chose who they wanted to take to the station because I was there and they didn't take me. The picture that we have are pictures that my aunt's nine year old took where they found the drugs over the other side, she took picture of them upstairs. We are out here for our family because they are innocent, that doesn't belong to us - in our neighborhood everybody is free to go where they want, that doesn't belong to any individual in our yard."

Voice of family member
"My aunty is 41 and she's not used to this kind of thing and she has a small child."

Voice of family member
"This is a disgrace to our family - they are really putting us bad, they are chaining us - we feel so low."

47 year-old Frank Jones; his wife, 41 year-old Lidia Estrada; his brothers: 19 year-old Derrick Jones; 21 year-old Michael Jones; 26 year-old Richard Jones; and 18 year-old Rick Jones were all arrested and charged with 1 count of keeping an unlicensed firearm, 2 counts of keeping unlicensed ammunition, and 1 count of drug trafficking.

They were all arraigned before Magistrate Dale Cayetano this morning, and due to the nature of the offences, they couldn't be granted bail. They were remanded to prison until their next court date, which is set for September 24, 2013.
