A “Mobile Peace Caravan” For Cops?
posted (August 28, 2013)
The Police Department got a major donation today from the Taiwanese Government. It's a mobile command center, which, in a chintzy little touch is called a Mobile Peace Caravan. Ok, "Peace Caravan" might be a little too cute, but the new unit will play a major, strategic role for police. The ambassador explained how it will help police string up gangsters:…

H.E. David Wu - Taiwanese Ambassador to Belize
"The mobile command center will be integral to identify target and interdict major criminal gangsters."

ACP Miguel Segura - Commander, Eastern Division
"This peace caravan will be able to be utilized for community policing projects, where there's a problem then police will intervene in whatever projects to bring the community together - it will be done. Also for law enforcement project, we intend to use it to go where the problem is, to move in the area and bring it to normalcy. This peace caravan can be used in many events, for example September celebrations coming up - we'll use it as a forward command center where we can deploy our resources and have it on time and as you can see it is equipped, it has a bathroom, area where they can rest and it's an area where we can command and control the resources on the spot."

Allen Whylie - Commissioner of Police
"For a number of years we've talked about having a mobile command center and we've spoken and spoken but we've never actually actualized. Today, through the contribution of the Taiwanese government we actually have our first mobile command center and rest assured - it will be put to use. The radio communication equipment as the minister says, will definitely be a plus for us because it will extend our radio coverage within Belize City. We know that communication is the key in terms of providing the service for the citizens when they call for assistance."

Along with the Radio communication repeater system handed over today and other donations, this tranche of support is valued at 120,000 thousand US Dollars. The next big donation to police form the Taiwanese is 190,000 dollars that will be gifted to construct a Belmopan Police Station.
