The name Ronald Rivers has faded from the headlines, but in March of this year, it was big news when he was gunned down in broad daylight at a gas station. His family, led by the very well-known stevedore Raymond Rivers, are determined to make his memory not fade away. So on Saturday, they held a sports day to commemorate his birthday. "Today we are having the R3 Youth Sports day. That is in memory of my brother Ronald Robert Rivers who passed away in March. He was a basketball star athlete. Wednesday would have been his birthday October 2nd. We are just having an all-day sporting activity in memory of his life."
"This morning we had the basketball competition; the skills and free throw competition and this afternoon we are having a small marathon for kids ages 6-12 years old."
His family intends to make it an annual event. The man accused of shooting Ronald Rivers is already serving time for the firearm he was caught with immediately after the shooting.
