GSU Says Arenal Weed Abounds
posted (October 23, 2013)
For the past 2 nights, we've been telling you about the marijuana busts made by the Gang Suppression Unit. Well there is more tonight.

This morning, at around 9:38, GSU officers searched an abandoned overgrown lot on Allan Pitts Crescent. The officers found a black plastic bag which was tied on a berries tree near the only small house sitting on the lot. Inside that bag, they found 4 smaller bags containing 461 ounces – or just over a pound – of marijuana. They also another black plastic bag, which contained 6 smaller bags with 655 grams – or almost 20 ounces of marijuana.

No one was in the area, so it was deposited as found property. According to the GSU, the abandoned lot is adjacent to a suspected drug dealer's house, who operates in the area.

Also, this evening at around 2:30, officers raided a known gang base on Kraal Road, where they found 3.7 ounces of marijuana in a plastic bag along the zinc fence. They found another half an ounce inside a plastic bag tucked between the branches of a coconut tree in the yard. No one could be linked to the drugs, so they were deposited as found property.

The GSU notes that in Belize City, there seems to be an influx of marijuana from drug peddlers who operate in the Arenal Village, in Cayo. The suspected source of that marijuana, according to the GSU, comes from Melchor, Guatemala.
