Heavy Rains Bring High Waters

This morning NEMO sent out a press release warning about the effects of heavy rains from a cold front that is passing over the Yucatan. It has caused some flooding across certain parts of the country and according to NEMO, it is expected to continue in the next 48 hours. NEMO has been monitoring and responding to affected areas. This morning the Roaring Creek was rising fast, but up until this evening, water levels have receded under the Roaring Creek bridge and the bridge remains passable to vehicular traffic. This morning the North Stann Creek was 4 feet above and was falling at mile 20, 12 feet above at Hope Creek. The Mullins River was at 3 feet above normal and was rising. Cabbage Hay Creek was 5 feet abover normal and also was rising. The communities places on Flood watch this morning included, Sarawee, Hope Creek, Mullins River, Santa Rosa, San Roman and Georgetown. In an updated release for the Stann Creek district, NEMO mentioned that the rainfall stopped in the areas of Stann Creek but it is still raining in the mountains where the river's have their head waters. North Stann Creek is Stabilizing; while Mullins River remains 3 feet above normal and levelling off and has started to recede. Cabbage Hay Creek is stable and no longer rising. And in the Toledo District, Blue Creek was 3 feet above the bridge this morning and was rising. The road was closed for motorist. The Moho River was 10 feet above normal and was rising. Bladden was 6 feet above and was also rising. There were no report from Crique Sarco along the Temash River and San Benito Poite on the Moho River, but flood watch was out for San Benito Poite, Jordan, Aguacate, Crique sarco and Bladden. In an updated release for the Toledo District, NEMO mentioned that rainfall still is being reported in most areas in Toledo. In Aguacate the water is 1foot above bridge and rising, in Blue Creek the water is 3feet and receding slowly. Corozon Creek is 1 foot over the deck of the bridge and 3 feet on road approaching the bridge on both sides. In Jordan the water is 13 feet above normal and still rising. Motorists are asked to drive with extreme caution when driving the highways and secondary roads.
