Belize Rural North Representative and Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport Edmund Castro went to Cabinet today for the regular Tuesday meeting. It's the last Cabinet meeting in at least two weeks as the Prime Minister is expected to undergo back surgery next week. The media did try to catch Castro as he left the Sir Edney Cain Building, but as this video from PLUS TV shows he got into his Toyota Fortuner and left before he could be questioned. KREM Radio reports that he blew the female media workers a kiss, before leaving. Castro has dodged and declined all interviews since returning to the country on Saturday, only saying in a statement that he intends to sue Channel 5 and Alvorine Burgess, the woman who claims she paid him four hundred thousand dollars in visa bribes over six months.
In related news, 7News has confirmed that the scandal-wracked Immigration Department has started a department-wide shake up - transferring 11 clerks out of the department effective yesterday. No word yet on whether Immigration Officers will also be transferred.
And, the PUP has confirmed that it is considering mobilizing a protest to coincide with Friday's House Meeting in Belmopan. Deputy Leader Julius Espat told us via text message that it has been discussed, but not finalized. He says he supports a protest.
