posted (October 29, 2013)
At the top of our newscast, we showed you the flooding from the weekend rains in different parts of the country.

Well, one event which went on despite the weather was the Day of Healing, which as we've told you, is a community effort to promote positive activities in the different neighbourhoods where gang influence is heavy.

7News stopped by and we spoke to the organizer, and he told us that cancelling was not an option because the Yabra children would have been disappointed:

Perry "Stix" Smith, Organizer - Day of Healing
"It's still going on. We are not having any challenges because of the weather. The Father made us and he also made the weather. The weather, some might look at it as an obstacle, but we look at it as a blessing. This is not the first days of healing that water touched it and we gone through - from the time water come the people know already that Day of Healing will still happen."

"We wanted the youths out here playing basketball and football. Before I arrive out here the youths were here on the basketball court running on the field. When they saw the brown truck that Amandala loan to me pulled up and they saw me in there - they got excited. When they saw the bags of ideal and water start unload the youths said that they were ready to play. They say that they wanted to win the beautiful trophies."

"We got the trophies and the medals, we still owe Jex some money, but we will pay Jex. We got the food and the people out here. The youths and the community are the energy. The youths wanted this and the older people in the community wanted this also. We have to continue to push this, we couldn't postpone it nor hold it back."

Saturday's Day of Healing was the 6th. Smith told us that on this coming Saturday, he intends to oversee the sporting competitions which got rained out.
