Taiwan Still Helping With ICT
posted (October 29, 2013)
This morning a Signing Ceremony was held between the Government of Belize and Taiwan on Cooperation in Information and Communication Technology. The project started in 2006, with the objective of applying Taiwan's advanced ICT abilities to assist the government of Belize in progressing towards e-government. With a budget of 3 million dollars, Belize has received assistance to build a national ICT Center while providing training for IT personnel in order to improve the government's overall administrative efficiency.

Today, the agreement was renewed and the Taiwanese Ambassador told the media what's behind it:..

H.E. David Wu - Taiwan Ambassador to Belize
"We just renew an agreement which was signed in May 2009 when our President came to visit your beautiful country. At that time an agreement for the cooperation of ICT (Industry for Communication and Information) was signed by two Foreign Ministers and then the President and the Prime Minister Hon. Dean Barrow - both of them held a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the ICT Center in Belmopan."

"That center was completed in August 2010 and then from October 2010 that center was handed over to the Government of Belize. That process lasted until the year 2012. Not only the building, but also the center equipment and 5 sets of e-government systems were handed over."

"Since then many things have been done from the ICT center. The ICT center has become a hub for 3 very important purposes; firstly, its for the development of information and communication technology for Belize and, secondly, we try to collaborate with the Government of Belize to enhanced the Government's administrative efficiency by setting up a e-government system and, thirdly, a very important purpose is for the capacity building for the training of the personnel."

Taiwan plans to continue focusing on the Belize ICT project in the hopes of improving government services.
