DPP Gets Sentence Extended
posted (November 1, 2013)
In other news from the court of appeal, the DPP was successful in her appeal of the sentence of Hilberto Hernandez. Justice Hanomansingh had sentenced him to 10 years for manslaughter, for the killing of Enrique Castillo. Hernandez had previously attempted to kill his step brother and was already serving 12 years for that. The judge found that his new 10 years sentence should run concurrent with that.

After hearing submissions from the DPP and Hernandez's attorney Hubert Elrington, the court allowed the appeal, set aside the sentence of 10 years, substituted a sentence of 20 years and set it to commence AFTER the sentence that he is presently serving expires - meaning he ends up with 32 years in jail instead of 12.?He had stabbed Castillo 4 times, 3 times to the abdomen and once to the forearm and then he strangled him with a cord.
