“Lucas Magnus”: No Animus For Bze Bank, Says Barrow Is To Blame
posted (November 7, 2013)
On Tuesday we told you about the 29.4 million dollar Supreme Court judgment that the Belize Bank won against Luke Espat. The Bank proved to the court that Espat had signed and was liable for personal guarantees he made on behalf of three of his companies.

Well, Espat issued a statement today - and instead of taking any real issue with the bank or the judgment, he ends up condemning the UDP Government.

His statement says, quote, "this matter has been taken to extreme lengths by political forces in an effort to undermine my vying for public office, end quote.

While we can't quite figure out how reporting on a Supreme Court judgment is an "extreme length", Espat then turns to the business climate and quote, "government induced hard times." He refers to an anti-business government "straight-jacketing" banks which he says are not allowed to work with their clients anymore.

Espat says his projects were sabotaged and undermined by the Barrow administration and alleges that there was collusion quote, "with bankers to remove me from my business without a court order." He is referring to the Port of Belize.

Espat then turns to the Bank to which he's on the hook for tens of millions and says, quote, "The Ashcroft Group and the Espat Group have issues and those are being addressed....common ground will be found making it a win/win for both parties."

Espat is offering himself as a candidate for the PUP convention in Cayo Central.
