Martiza’s Mom Worries That Money Matters In The Justice System
posted (November 8, 2013)
At approximately 11:15 yesterday morning, Michael Silva accompanied by his father turned himself into police after 2 years of receiving treatment in another country. He was taken to court and was arraigned for murder- then sent to the Hattieville Prison, where he is now remanded. But while all that was happening, his victim's mother, Maura Larios was unaware and only informed by police afterwards.

Maura Larios, Mother of Decease
""I feel bad because they did not inform me yesterday that he came, ahead of time. And I think they should have informed me ahead of time so I could have been at court to hear what it was they were going to say."

"Well the detectives came Around 3:30 to tell me that he already returned and that he had court and he was charged for the crime but that he will have court because he has his attorney s to defend himself. Well, I feel bad because they did not inform me."

In an interview with Plus TV yesterday, Silva's attorney Dickey Bradley maintained his innocence and even added that the couple was madly in love with each other.

Dickie Bradley - Silva's Attorney
"It is unfortunate because you know out here we are judge and jury and although I know you are a religious man and the bible says a judger is a sinner. The situation is that the fact that he drank poison is in no way indicating that somehow he committed a crime and is also trying to kill himself. This is a situation because it is going to come up for trial - it is unfair for me to say too much but the evidence against Mr. Silva is not strong evidence. There is no evidence that he killed anyone - that he killed that young lady. In fact they were madly in love with each other."

In September 2011, 19 year old Maritza Santos was murdered in this concrete house - located behind the Kontiki Area in San Ignacio Town. It was the home of her boyfriend Michael Silva who was 26 at the time.

Her body was found on a bed in one of the bedrooms with a large cut wound to the right side of her forehead and a pillow was found covering her face. According to the police report, she was bleeding from her head.

Found inside the kitchen was a quart of herbicide and 9 slips of paper with notes on them. Police believe Silva murdered his young girlfriend and then tried killing himself my ingesting the Herbicide.

For Santos' mother, that is enough evidence to convince anyone that Michael Silva is a cold blooded murderer who took the life of her child.

Maura Larios - Mother of Decease
"We feel bad because how will they say there is not sufficient evidence. I saw it last night on the news. They say that there is not sufficient evidence and that made me feel bad because how is it that they found her in his house. What more evidence can there be of that? What more? That is what makes me feel bad because they want to make it out as if it was not him. That day he came to drop her home and he came to drop me home and left with her and her twin sister. The next day that happened, so what more evidence can there be?"

"Now, if they had found her in another place, then they could say there is not enough evidence. But they found her at his home and so it can't be any clearer than that and so I don't know why the lawyer says that."

In the interview, Larios mentioned that for the past 2 years, she has not heard anything from the Silva family. And in a world where justice seldom happens for the poor, Larios is trying to hold on to every hope it.

Maura Larios - Mother of Decease
"Well we feel bad because too much time has passed and justice has not been done, until that they have brought him but with that that they are saying that there is not sufficient evidence and that makes me feel bad because, yes, it IS clear!"

Monica Bodden
"Now what do you expect will happen? You expect that there will be justice?"

Maura Larios - Mother of Decease
"Yes, I do expect that there will be justice because it cannot be that they let him free like that and knowing that that is a crime. A crime is a crime!"

Today, home for 19 year old Maritza Santos is under this huge Oak Tree at the Carmen Memorial Burial ground - in Santa Elena Town. Her precious life was cut short - but justice for the young girl seems one step closer.

Maura Larios - Mother of Decease
"Well the message I would send to him is that he knows perfectly well what it was he did. He knows. So I ask him please don't try to change the version. He knows it was him. It was him and there is a God who knows the best even if he wants to cover up things. God knows best but I would tell him to tell the truth better because anyway, he is already sentenced/seen as a criminal. Let him say it was him because who else could it have been?"

Monica Bodden
"Do you feel that it's because of the family and money that all this is happening?"

Maura Larios - Mother of Decease
"Well- well I think all of that too, yes, 'cause they have the money to be able to get him out. Money? Money buys everything. So it can be it's that too."
