Earlier we told you about how BSI is using Bagasse as a renewable source to generate electricity. Well, the Ministry of Energy, Science and Technology, and Public Utilities is also stepping up their plan for renewable energy.
Today, they facilitated a workshop at the ITVET Compound in Belize City to train technicians on installation, maintenance and the 
importance features of solar panels. It's part of the Ministry's plan to mainstream solar technology within the private sector, and we found out what the international expert has to offer the workshop attendees:

"For countries like Belize that experience heavy rains and even hurricanes the trainees need to know how to install these systems onto the roofs or on the ground to ensure that they can resist the elements and finally they will learn all the aspects relating to connecting these systems to your electricity grid if permitted by your local utility and doing this design and installation according to the national electric code as stipulated by the Government of Belize electricity company."

"The ministry in its strategic plan had identified a number of critical areas with respect to renewable energy and human capacity was one of those. This was further made extremely clear when the ministry had these private sector forums throughout the country. Over 300 private sector members attended and one of the things they were clamoring for was skilled technicians, people who knew how to design, maintain and install these systems."
At the end of the workshop, the participants will have to take and pass a practical and a written test on the material.
