UDP Freetown Caretaker Steps Down
posted (November 25, 2013)
Some of that damage will likely have to address the Belama area phases three and four, which have been swamped by rains. But, you probably shouldn't expected to see the UDP Caretaker for the Freetown Division in the front row - and that's because Li Mark Chang is stepping down. Chang told us today that he is stepping away because he has to take care of his business, the Chon Saan chain of restaurants. He told us that his parents have retired and he and his wife have had to earnestly take up management of the restaurants in Belmopan and Belize Cities.

He says he had decided to step down some time ago, but only recently made it official because the UDP is opening its convention season. He says he will remain involved for the UDP in Freetown and will support whoever is chosen as his successor. He says he has no idea who that will be.

In 2012, Chang tried mightily to make history in two ways: first by toppling a sitting leader of the opposition - that would be Francis Fonseca in Freetown and second, by becoming the first Chinese Belizean to be elected to the House of Representatives. Ultimately, he failed in that bid, losing by 150 votes.

It is also notable, that the UDP - which had offered up Belize's first Mennonite, Taiwanese - Belizean, and Chinese - Belizean candidates have now disclaimed Elvin Penner, and lost Li Mark Chang, while Eric Chang is in the wind.
