FOOTBALL: PG's Freedom Fighters Find Paradise At MCC
posted (November 25, 2013)
The Belikin Cup Premier League Football game rolled on this weekend - and the most pivotal match was held in Belize City where the Paradise Freedom Fighters From Punta Gorda came to the MCC in Belize City to take on FC Belize.

Channel 7 had live coverage at the forty fifth minute of the first half where FC Belize struck first - in a game that ended up in a one - one draw. Here's the call of that first goal from Mervin Rugged Flores:...

Mark "Kelo" Leslie, Midfield - Belize F.C.
"I thought we give away the 3 points because we had the game control but in the second half our team got a little tired, so the PG team capitalize on the second half and scored a goal to tie the game but in the 1st half we had lots of opportunity to go up 2-0. Unfortunately we missed our break and those guys capitalized on their goal and that was the game."

Fred Garcia, Coach
"Technically we are not in shape and we are just not picking on to the philosophy as quickly as we wanted and we are running out of time. I am thinking within the next two games if the weather gives us a break we will come around. If we come together we have a great chance. We have a great group of kids, it's just getting them to understand what you want to do and have them believing in what you are trying to do and then believing in themselves."

Jules Vasquez
"How much of a credibility hurdle do you face with them because you are known as a pre-imminent basketball player?"

Hilton Garbutt, Coach - Paradise Freedom Fighters
"For the first half the team was not playing how they were supposed to play and you notice the condition of the field as well. When we took that half, if you notice we dominated the game, we played our game and we had several opportunities which we blow, but it so happen that we drew this game."

Ashley Torres, Midfield - Paradise Freedom Fighters
"It was a very difficult, but even with the pitch made us play the ball harder than we know how to play."

Jules Vasquez
"How did the field conditions affect you all?"

Mark "Kelo" Leslie, Midfield - Belize F.C.
"That definitely played a big role on the game because you couldn't stand up on your feet. Like you said, every minute somebody was getting hurt because you slide into each other. That played a big role. Maybe if the field was dry you would have seen a better game. The 2 teams played on the field, so we are not complaining about that."

Jules Vasquez
"Polanco, he took everyone by surprise today."

Fred Garcia, Coach
"The guy is a good player. He holds the ball well and passes the ball well. He controls the ball well. He is a general."

Ashley Torres, Midfield - Paradise Freedom Fighters
"I never thought he would be playing so wonderful being the first time in semi-pro and being young and so short. But this guy, every single game after he seems to amaze us even more."

Hilton Garbutt, Coach - Paradise Freedom Fighters
"What I am hoping is that referees in Belize look after our good players."

One of the players from Paradise Freedom Fighters had to be taken to the KHMH because of a serious onfield injury.

But despite the injury, with 11 points Paradise now moves into first place - which is right where they want to be with five games to go before the playoffs:..

Tune in again this coming Sunday December first when Channel 7 will have another live game from the MCC.
