Prep Software On Multiple Platforms
posted (November 26, 2013)
2 weeks ago, 7News promised to show you part 2 of our story on Tanya Simpson's GAME PREP, a computer program designed for helping students perform better on the PSE and CSEC Exams by allowing them extensive practice answering hundreds of sample questions. Due to time constraints we weren't able to do that, and tonight, we provide you with that interview.

But there's also more to report because Simpson, whose entrepreneurial approach has earned her a business award.

She told us about what she's offering to the 4th form students looking to sit the exam next year, in light of the revelation to from Education Minister Patrick Faber that they could win a $5,000 financial grant if they pass 15 exams:

Tiffany Simpson - President, Belizean Artwork Publishing
"Math, English, POA, POB, Spanish, Economics, IT, Caribbean History, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and we also included in our game prep build the essay assistance. This is a program that allows individuals to copy and paste their essay within the program and it reads their writing style and helps them to better structure their essay based on that particular writing style."

"It took me 8 months, every day. Anything that you practice long enough eventually becomes a part of you and what these programs do they give you an automated way to practice as many times as you need to until the materials and the foundation of those materials become a part of the individual."

"The Taiwanese Government along with BELTRAIDE have been running a workshop over the past 5 months now for entrepreneurs in Belize to receive funding for their business ideas and the business module that I had submitted was game prep. Today I was one of 18 to be awarded as a recipient for the grant of US$7,000 from the Taiwanese Government."

Simpson told us that she will have an upgrade for the GAME PREP CXC shortly where she will add 3 more subjects and more content for the current 12 being offered. She has launched GAME PREP CXC in other countries in the Caribbean, and she reports that it has been met with success. As we've told you, the program is available for windows and mac, and it can be found as an app on the android and iOS mobile platforms.

One particular education outreach advocate who is excited about what GAME PREP offers is Mark Usher, who works as a tutor at 3R Tutoring. He says that he has tested the software, and recommends it as a tool which will drastically improve students based on its design:

Mark Usher, President - Proto Foundation
"When I get a kid in the tutoring school and I give them a physical past exam and I say work on that, he says sir, I am not sure. Now I say here is the computer, here is the laptop, do this exam for me. The exam is in a game form. Another great thing about the exam is the exam has the answer. As it asks you a question and you put in your answer it immediately tells you if you are wrong or right. That is positive immediate feedback. That has a certain power, the paper exam don't do that. I would have to then go afterwards and say okay you are correct here and there and that is kind of monotonous."

"Because it's a game structure, it adds to the interest of the kid. You are hooking the student with the game and in so doing, He/she is learning, so that's a very powerful tool."

"What I do now, whenever we get a student that comes in for either CXC or PSE prep; I would make sure that I do the song and dance for the CD to that parent. Why? Because if that parent have that tool at home then that child has the ability to go and practice as much as possible. For me, learning is 3 parts; principles, concepts and practice. The teacher, school, tutor is responsible for the first 2. Once the child gets that information then the next thing where learning comes in is practice and practice, practice, practice. It's a tool for that parent."

"I say here is what you do for you kid, you let him take a copy of the exam let's say every day Saturday. The exam immediately scores that child. You the parents literally see the progress. That to me is the most powerful thing for the parent and the kid because then Saturday #1, he gets a 67. Saturday #2, he gets a 69. Saturday #3, he is at 84. When you see your progress you are encourage to do more."
