Interesting New Names For UDP Convention Races
posted (November 28, 2013)
Earlier we showed you Mayor Darrell Bradley stonewalling the media on whether he was interested in offering himself for the Freetown division.

Well, while he's playing cagey, some newcomers are not! Tomorrow is the deadline for those wanting to submit their names as candidates for UDP conventions. And, reports reaching us are that some interesting names have been, or will be put into the mix.

Second in command of the police department, Deputy Commissioner Elodio Aragon today confirmed to us that he will offer himself as a candidate for the Orange Walk East constituency. But to do that, the 18 year veteran of the police department will have to step down from his post and retire. He told us he is in the process of arranging an orderly departure and plans to formally launch his candidacy on December 15th. Aragon's father, Elodio Sr. was a three time UDP representative in Orange Walk East.

Another interesting name we've heard is Beverly Castillo. We know her as the CEO in the Ministry of Natural Resources, but she confirmed to us that she resigned today and confirmed to us this evening, that she will enter her name for Belize Rural Central.

The 55 year old is a career public officer, with 37 years in the service. She is also Phillip Goldson's niece.

And, reports to us say that former UDP Senator and well known jaguar expert, Omar Figueroa has also put in his name as a prospective candidate. Figueroa, who is from San Ignacio, will offer himself for the Cayo North Division.

The UDP convention season will begin in January and will in March. Conventions will only be held in the 14 seats where the UDP does not currently have an elected representative.
