posted (December 4, 2013)

This evening in Belize City a four year old was killed when he was run over as he stood on a sidewalk with his older brother.  It is a horrible accident – and as Monica Bodden found out, onlookers were outraged at the driver.  Here's her story:

Monica Bodden Reporting

The lifeless body of 4 year old Jaston Terry lay on the sidewalk - where he was knocked down and died on impact.

Voice of: Eyewitness
"When we see the white van, it sped pass my business on the sidewalk."

Reporter
"Did you hear the child scream or anything like that?"

Voice of: Eyewitness
"No, I couldn't."

4 year old Terry was standing on the sidewalk along with his older brother waiting on a bus to go home - when this white van from out of nowhere made its way onto the sidewalk - running over the child and then knocking down this sign.

The van managed to stop - some say about 200 yards away from where the child was killed. When we arrived on the scene, bystanders were outraged at what happened - many expressing anger with words, while others with tears.

For an area that is normally crowded with bus commuters - especially around that time of the day, it causes many to question negligence on the driver's behalf.

He too was on the scene and was being questioned by police. He was seen crying but was showed no mercy by the angry crowd. Inside the van, a couple beer bottlers were seen.

Voice of: Eyewitness
"We were looking and the van pass on top of him on the sidewalk. The little boy and his brother were on the sidewalk. The van was going too fast and also knocked down the sign on the sidewalk."

Reporter
"Why was the van on the sidewalk? Was it overtaking something?"

Voice of: Eyewitness
"That I didn't see. We only saw when the little boy was standing there and the van ran over him."

Monica Bodden
"By the time you got out there, the child was already dead?"

Voice of: Eyewitness
"I think so. Everything was - from there we didn't see nothing else because we were inside."

We understand Jaston Terry is a student of Building Blocks pre-school.  His older brother was also hurt and taken to the KHMH for observation. There are reports just coming in that there was another fatal accident on the northern highway between Belize City and Ladyville this evening.
