Ministerial Zap!: Zetina Gets Spared Police Charges
posted (December 24, 2013)
But our next story is about suspect who didn't get charged. Well, he kinda did, since a charge sheet was made out, but it seems Belmopan Resident Anwar Zetina has friends in high places so the charge was drawn up at the station never went to court.

On Saturday night Zetina was driving his car recklessly in Belmopan doing 360's and other high speed stunts. Police responded to the ruckus which was near Cabana bar. Turns out Zetina didn't have a valid driver's permit - it had expired six days earlier, and his vehicle wasn't licensed - that expired in October. More than that, his friends cursed out the arresting officer.

So police took him in to the station put them in the cell block, while his friends called the officers commanding Belmopan and Cayo. And it seems those calls got through, the charge sheets were dutifully prepared, but reports to us say that senior officers prevailed on the police and urged them not to lodge the charges at court on Monday morning. The charges were for reckless driving, driving without a valid driver's license, drove an unlicensed motor vehicle, and using insulting words.

Despite all that, on the night of the incident, reports are that Zetina still got to drive his unlicensed vehicle home. Zetina is known to be politically connected in Belmopan.
