City Residents Can Now Renew Licenses Online
posted (January 14, 2014)
Soon, Belize City residents won't have to worry about going into the Traffic Department to renew their driver's licenses. That's because, starting tomorrow, the council is offering online renewal of driver's licenses. With a web connection, and a credit card, in just a few clicks you'll be able to renew your driver's permit. At the launch today at City Hall, the Deputy Mayor explained that they expect about a third of license holders to use the service immediately.

BQ Pitts Jr., Deputy Mayor - Belize City
"For the 15,000 you would say at least we have about 5,000 - 7,000 would use the service and it's a matter of convenience really because most people want to get the service quick. You'd spend about 15 - 30 minutes in traffic and then to wait another 15 minutes to get it, but with this service now, you will cut that by half or even less."

Now that's applying. To pick it up - you can take your printed receipt, and go in to the Traffic Office yourself or pay ten dollars more to have the license delivered to you in person within city limits.

That may take a few days, and in the interim, drivers can use their print out receipts as provisional short term permits. In the future, the service will be expanded to include debit cards and account transfers, but right now it's strictly credit cards.

The service is being facilitated through the Atlantic Bank.

How do you access it? Well, go to the City Council website at bliezecitycouncil.org, click on the "Web" menu at the far right, and right there, you'll see a tab that says "renew driver's permit." From there, it's pretty straightforward.

Again, they say it should be live tomorrow.
