Wicked And Wild In The West
posted (January 21, 2014)
Tonight, San Ignacio Police continue to closely guard 27 year old Kevin "Midget" Manzanero as he remains in the hospital after being chopped by the would-be victims of his latest crime. Manzanero is wanted for a spate of burglaries and robberies which were committed in the San Ignacio/Santa Elena area during the month of December last year. He is also one of 2 main suspects in the murder of 57 year-old Fredy Lopez Sr., elderly man who was killed in a robbery gone bad which unfolded in front of his wife and his 2 very young granddaughters. On Sunday, Hospital officials called police that a man was in the hospital suffering from multiple chop wounds and this individual matched the description of Manzanero who was wanted. Officers check in and confirmed that yes, it was indeed Manzanero.

Reports to police are that he tried to commit another aggravated burglar on a family home on Collin's Boulevard, San Ignacio. The owners were alerted to his presence in their house, and one of them got into a struggle with him. Another family member grabbed a machete and chopped him on both arms, the right side of his face, and the right side of his neck. These injuries needed medical attention, and that's how he ended up at the hospital.

Police are still searching for 25 year-old Alex "Cat" Reid, who is wanted, and who is also believed to have been his accomplice in the murder of Fredy Lopez Sr. and in the other crimes.

San Ignacio Police also found a body in the La Gracia, which was identified as Marlon Balona, a resident of Valley of Peace. Police are treating it as a murder investigation because they found abrasions on the neck and chest of the body. Today, a post mortem was conducted on Marlon Balona's body, but police have not released the details of that examination as yet.

Marlon Balona was a suspect that was being sought by Belmopan Police in connection with the murder of Canadian Brian Townsend, whose remains were discovered in Arenal Guatemala. Viewers may remember that Townsend went missing on Christmas Day, and the recovery of his body took quite a lot of maneuvering to retrieve it from the Guatemalan authorities.
