Micah Williams Becomes City's Fourth Murder In Ten Days
posted (January 22, 2014)

Last night on the news we told you about Micah Williams – the 28 year old Belize City Resident who was shot in the head before 9:00 yesterday morning.  Well, he died last night at 8:20 – from significant brain damage.  Today his mother publicly grieved for him and lamented her great loss.  Monica Bodden has the story:

Monica Bodden Reporting

Despite being shot in the head, 28 year old Micah Williams survived for 12 hours - before he expired at approximately 8:35 last night.

Layla Williams - Mother of Decease
"At around 6 o'clock, the doctor called me back to the hospital, and they asked me to come and sign a paper so that he could take an emergency surgery because he was in a critical condition. He went into the surgery, and as he got in after the surgery, he just passed away."

Monica Bodden
"Was the surgery to remove the bullet?"

Layla Williams
"The surgery was to crack his skull so that the blood can flow out and that the brain could swell with more room, so that he could survive, but he suffered a haemorrhage. He was bleeding too much; he didn't have blood. We gave them blood, but he didn't make it."

Shattered and deeply devastated, his mother pointed out the spot of blood on the street pavement, where her son fell after being gun down in broad daylight.

Layla Williams
"It makes me very angry to see that it was a child who didn't interfere with people. He was always there to help, and he was a big support, a big help to me. He is no gang banger. He walks any part of Belize City, and nobody does anything to him. That's why I said that if someone wanted to do him something, they could have caught him a long time ago. It's not the first time that he is out here. Sometimes, he hangs out at the shop right there with his friends on the boulevard. Sometimes, he goes out to party, him alone. Nobody does any thing to him. When he comes in sometimes 3 or 4 in the morning all by himself, whenever I hear the gate open, I would peep to see that he came, but I saw that he was okay. I don't know why they wanted to deal with him like that. This guy rode up to him on bicycle and ask him about 2 rims that he was selling and he told them that somebody already bought it, but that the person will come later. The men just rode off and one of them shot him and went. It was so quick and fast."

And while she is being consoled by family and friends today, this grieving mother has a message for the triggerman who took her son’s life.

Layla Williams
"I want to tell the trigger man that he and Micah are cousins and he didn't know that. His mother and I are very close family. Mr. killer, I would want to ask you why, just talk to me; I am a very nice person."

Police have a suspect, who is being held pending charges.  He is only 17 years old, and more disturbingly, reports say he is Micah Williams cousin.
