Oh No He Didn’t!
posted (January 23, 2014)
Here at 7News, we listen to a lot of speeches by politicians. And sometimes, we hear some stuff that's just crazy. Usually we chalk it up to the temporary insanity or altitude sickness that can accompany ascension to high office, but this week two of them really caught our attention.

The first is from Mayor Darrell Bradley at the re-dedication of BTL Park. Speaking extemporaneously, he was waxing all poetic about how the accomplishment of the park is a metaphor for the ability to persevere against doubters and naysayers. And then he said this:..

Darrell Bradley, Mayor - Belize City
"Every single thing that we set our mind to, we can overcome. The crime situation in our city - that is what is what a figment of what our imagination."

Yes, he just said crime is a figment of our imagination - in a city that up to 2012 had one of the highest murder rates in the world. Bradley went unto say that with will, we can overcome those problems.

And then yesterday, in the house of Representatives, Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega in responding to his colleague from Orange Walk South, warned that they should not foment problems in the sugar industry, because pretty soon, the problems will be theirs:..

Hon. Gaspar Vega, Deputy Prime Minister
"You all are always trying to undermine the system, you all want to gain political mileage. It doesn't matter who it hurts, you all have to change, remember you all are going back in 3 years' time you know."

Yes, you heard right, he just said the PUP will be in office within three years. Let's just say that one was a Freudian slip.
