posted (January 27, 2014)
And while Nick Jones was shot on New Year's Day, 19 year old Tajah Staine was shot on New Year's Eve in Belize City. The young lady was shot ten times, allegedly by her own 16 year old male cousin.

But, incredibly, she survived and four weeks later is continuing to to make strides back to health. Today her mother told Monica Bodden how Tajah is doing:..

Jermaine Thompson - Mother of Shooting Victim
"So far we found another bullet lodge in the wrist part of her hand. We will try to see if we can take that out tomorrow, but other from that is as we go along. The other two bullets are still lodge in the back of her neck. The doctors are still contemplating whether they should move it or leave it as it is because they say if it is not affecting any nerve then its best they leave it as is. That is where we are when it comes to the bullets."

"Tajah bounced right back, I mean it surprise me, she is ready to back to school. The only thing that bothers her is the bullets that are still lodge in her. She cries in the night of pain, so she lives on pain killers until the doctors decide what they will do."

Monica Bodden
"And the movement in her arm?"

Jermaine Thompson - Mother of Shooting Victim
"The doctors say that the bullets damage the nerves in her neck and in her left arm, but she should gain back mobility in that part of her body if she works hard on it and with medication and injection and therapy, it supposed to come back."

Monica Bodden
"I know that in a previous interview you told me that she was shot 7 times, but I understand that it was even more."

Jermaine Thompson - Mother of Shooting Victim
"9 times and with the one in her wrist, 10."

Monica Bodden
"Even though it's almost a month since your daughter has been shot - she is alive - 10 shots. Could you believe that?"

Jermaine Thompson - Mother of Shooting Victim
"I still can't believe it myself, but I left everything in God's hand. Like just this calm comes over me and I know she will be okay."

Monica Bodden
"Do you still remember that night?"

Jermaine Thompson - Mother of Shooting Victim
"I just try to block it out, but for me I don't try to focus on the negative - it already happened and she is still here. God have a purpose for her life, so that is the reason why she is still here and that is what I focus on."

"Living as a single parent and watch somebody gunning down your child like a dog in street - it's like, it's all on me."

Monica Bodden
"You think you will get justice for Tajah's shooting?"

Jermaine Thompson - Mother of Shooting Victim
"I just hope. So far the police are telling me that we have a strong case and I just hope that things stay on track and we have a good case and this won't be just a pat on the shoulder and they are back out here and they get a strike on their back because of what they did, you know. We have to start from just one case for us to get justice."

Tajah's mother would like to send a special thank you to her daughter's personal nurse as well as the Central Bank of Belize and Body 2000 who has been assisting her with Tajah's medical expenses.

A 16 year old, allegedly Tajah's first cousin has been charged for f attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm.
