8 Year Old Girl Victim Of Hit And Run

A hit and run incident has left an 8 year old girl hospitalized in the paediatric ward at the KHMH. It happened sometime after 3 on Monday evening in the Village of Tambran down in the Toledo District. From what we understand, Marivella Che was knocked down in front of her house. Her father - Domingo Che- was at home at the time and ran out to see what happened after he heard a bang. He saw the truck sped off and then turn around back towards the accident scene - but the driver never stopped to render assistance. Here's this father's story.

Domingo Che, father
"Marivella got knocked down by a vehicle."

Monica Bodden
"When did this happen?"

Domingo Che, father
"This happened at 3pm on Monday in Tambran Village."

Monica Bodden
"Were you at home when this happen? You mentioned that she came in from school and then she left from home?"

Domingo Che, father
"Yes, she left in a hurry but I didn't see where she went. When I heard a loud noise "bam," she got knocked down. I hurry went to pick her up but she wasn't speaking."

Monica Bodden
"She was knocked down in front of your house?"

Domingo Che, father
"Yes in front of my house."

Monica Bodden
"You didn't see the driver? Was it a hit and run?"

Domingo Che, father
"Yes but the driver didn't stop. When he knocked her down, he went. I thought he was going to help me but he went."

Monica Bodden
"Could you describe the vehicle to us?"

Domingo Che, father
"It was a Hilux."

Monica Bodden
"Marivella was taken to where? The Punta Gorda Hospital?"

Domingo Che, father
"Yes and then she was transfer to Belize City."

Monica Bodden
"What's her injuries?"

Domingo Che, father
"Her leg and left hand is broken and her skull is crack. But the doctor told me that it will be okay, but don't know when."

Littile Marevella is a Standard one student at Golden Stream Primary School. A part of the vehicle bumper fell off and is being held at the Village police station as evidence. The father of 3 is asking for the public's assistance to help with his daughter medical expenses. He can be contacted at the hospital or at telephone number 6-1-0-2-1-1-8.
