Retaliatory Murder One Block From Cops
posted (February 26, 2014)

About an hour before news time yesterday, there was a shooting on Armadillo Street, very close to the Racoon Street Police Precinct.

5 young men were socializing in a yard on Armadillo Street when a gunman ambushed them and let off with a barrage of gunshots and ran off.  He left 2 persons injured, and 1 of them died 12 hours later.

Police won't confirm, but street sources say that it is a direct retaliation from Supal Street against George Street for Tarique Cadle who was buried yesterday. Today, 7News went looking for answers, and Daniel Ortiz has this report:

Daniel Ortiz Reporting

Marsha Arnold - Mother of Deceased
"I heard last night. My niece called my work and told me that my son got shot. They say that he was in surgery. He got 2 shots in the back, and 1 in the hand. Basically, they say that he was on Armadillo Street with some friends, and a gunman pulled up in the yard and fired shots."

At this time police are investigating this latest shooting, but a small point of significance is the escape route the gunman took. It could suggest which territory conducted the attack.

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"I was at that white house building. Five other guys and I were in the yard. and a Gunman just ran into the yard and started shooting at us. Afterwards, the gunman ran toward the Supal area."

And that's important because word on the street is that last night's attack was a direct retaliation for Tarique Cadle, whose uncle is the boss of Supal Street, and also the main person of interest police is looking at for the George Street shooting which started it all. But last night, 2 more people got hurt in the continued feuding, and 1 person died.

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"Nobody expected that. When the gunman came, he pulled out his gun and started to fire shot. All of us just ran."

Reporter
"So, there was no exchange of word between the group and that man?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"Nobody spoke. Everybody was just trying to run."

Daniel Ortiz
"And you unfortunately got shot, you and another man, right?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"Yes sir."

Reporter
"What sort of injuries did you suffer?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"The bullet hit me in my leg, and on my arm. It grazed my arm."

Daniel Ortiz
"So, the bullet that hit you in the leg, is it still in there?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"Yes, Sir."

Reporter
"How many bullets, would you say, was shot at the group?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"I would say about 10 shots."

Daniel Ortiz
"And the gunman, was he masked, or was he hiding his face?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"No, he didn't hide his face. He just came."

Reporter
"So, what happened to the other individuals? Who else got shot?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"One of my next friend, Ryan."

Daniel Ortiz
"Is this a situation where this is the first time you've encountered a dangerous situation like this?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"Yes sir. The next guy got shot, and he was lying down on the ground. They picked him and took him in the car. They placed me in the car, and we rushed to the hospital."

Daniel Ortiz
"Now, we understand that he passed away while undergoing treatment. Can you describe for us what his condition was when everyone retrieved him?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
When looked, he had a lot of shots in his back. I don't know how many. When we were riding to the hospital, he was already passing out."

Daniel Ortiz
"Did he say anything at all?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"All he said was that he couldn't see anything, that he was seeing a lot of white. I hugged him and told him to be strong. He was trying to fight it until he got to the hospital."

Daniel Ortiz
"Is he a good friend of yours?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"Yes, sir."

Daniel Ortiz
"So, it must have been a very difficult situation for you to see him slowly dying in your arms."

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"Yes, sir."

Marsha Arnold
"The bullets in his back punctured all his organs, and I think that the shots in the back were the fatal shots that killed him."

It could be that Ryan Arnold wasn't the target that because he associated with those others in his group that he got killed. The same could be said for the 15 year-old minor who survived with gunshot injuries.

Daniel Ortiz
"Do you ever hang out people you believe, 'Well, you know, they are my friends, but people might have feuds with them?"

Voice of: Shooting Victim
"Yes, sir"

Reporter
"They're saying that it's gangs, that he's a part of George Street and that's why they shot him. Now, I am just trying to get it out there. Do you know whether he was a part of gang? And do you believe that's the reason why they killed him?"

Marsha Arnold
"Well, I won't say that my son was a part of a gang. My son grew up on West Street, George Street. That's where he lived. That's his neighbourhood. I wouldn't say that he was a part of George Street. But, you know, nowadays, if you live in an area, they always say that if a gang is there, that you're a part of the gang. So, I wouldn't say that my son was a part of any gang. Everybody knew Ryan from West Street, George Street. Only that I can say. I don't know Ryan as any gunman. Growing up, Ryan is my everything - was my everything. From growing up, he was a friendly person. He likes friends. He loves his sister and brother. He loves me. He always told me that he loves me. Ryan was a nice person. For them to take my son's life like that, but God is not sleeping."

As we've noted, a week ago, Tarique Cadle was murdered in George Street territory and it is strongly suspected that he was gunned down because of his relation to Jason "Soup" Williams. "Soup" Williams is behind bars for allegedly shooting at police officers who responded the shooting attack on George Street the night before in which Kariq Tzul and Andrew Tate were injured.
