Man Cleared Of Rape Accusation
posted (March 12, 2014)

44 year-old Vanzie Lamb is free tonight after he was acquitted of rape in the court room of Justice Troadio John Gonzalez. He was accused of an outrageous case of sexual abuse by a female who was only 14 years-old at the time.

The victim, who came to Belize City from Punta Gorda for a party, testified that between May 1 and 2 of 2009, she was involved in a car accident on King Street. She said that Lamb forcefully took her from the scene of the accident by putting her on his bicycle, and he rode her to his house, where he dragged her inside. While there, Lamb allegedly tied her hands and legs and raped her. She was only able to get away just before daybreak by cutting her hands and legs free with a knife that was nearby. Evidence was entered before the court that the medical examiner certified that she was carnally known.

In his defence, Lamb testified and denied that he committed the offence; he claimed that at the time of the incident, he was at home with his mother and daughter. He also called both women to testify on his behalf, though they couldn't recall the date that he was referring to.

A jury of 9 deliberated for just under 3 hours, and returned with a unanimous not-guilty verdict, setting Lamb free.
