Police Constable Remanded
posted (March 13, 2014)
Tonight, 29 year-old Police Constable Ronald Sutherland is at prison after his bail was revoked at Magistrate's Court today for charges of aggravated assault and wounding which he allegedly committed against his ex-common-law wife.

Tanisha Ortiz claimed that on September 26, of last year, pulled a machete and wounded her, while issuing threats. As a result of her report, Sutherland was charged with aggravated assault, wounding, and threatening words, and he was arraigned in October before the Chief Magistrate, Ann Marie Smith. He was granted bail of a $1,000 which he was able to meet, but he was supposed to sign in every Friday at the Queen Street Police station.

Well, it turns out that he hasn't been doing that, so when he was last seen, police detained him and took him to court this morning where Chief Magistrate Smith revoked his bail for non-compliance with the conditions she set.

But, that's not the end of his criminal troubles because Freddy Amaya accused Sutherland of pulling a knife on him on January 21, 2014. He was rearrested and charged with a second count of aggravated assault, and he was arraigned once again before the Chief Magistrate where he pleaded not guilty. He was granted bail of $3,000, but that didn't matter because his bail was already revoked for the previous charges, so he was remanded.

But, Sutherland's name has been in the news as early as August 2009, where it was alleged that he and his family assaulted a police officer. For that incident, he was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting lawful arrest, harm, and damage to property.
