Aracely’s Trial Begins In Earnest
posted (March 18, 2014)
21 year-old Aracely Cahueque, who is believed to have been the mastermind behind the October 2010 murder of Raylene Dyer, will have to stand a full trial before Justice Denis Hanomansingh where a jury will decide her fate.

As we told you yesterday, there was a trial within her trial in which her attorney was challenging a piece of evidence that the crown counsels from the DPP's Office was trying to get admitted against her. Though Justice Hanomansingh has ruled in her favour that this piece of evidence cannot be presented to the jury, Crown Counsels Cecil Ramirez and Kayshia Grant are determined that the jury should be the one to ultimately decide her innocence or guilt.

They are attempting to do that by depending on Brandon Budna, who was tried and acquitted of the murder of Raylene Dyer last week. After some initial difficulty, the prosecution was able to track down Budna who took the stand in front of the jury and gave evidence. He must return to court tomorrow to finish up with his testimony, which is being relied on heavily to secure Cahueque's conviction.

After the first day of a full trial against his client, attorney Dickey Bradley spoke with the media:

Dickie Bradley, attorney
"Basically what is actually unfolding in the presence of the jury and the media is in fact the crown's star witness, if I could borrow that word - is currently testifying and the crown is in the process of making an application in relation to that witness. He has started to testify and he is saying he knows Aracely Cahueque and he is saying some basic elementary information in the presence of the jury and now the crown is asking the court if in fact in relation to a legal matter can they in fact go down a particular road, so the only person that is making a link to Aracely Cahueque in this matter is this witness. Now there are 20 witnesses who are on the indictment to be called to testify and they will in fact be, if they are all called, will be presenting kind of like background information, filling out information - I imagine certainly a witness or witnesses will say that Aracely did borrow the baby which she is not denying. Borrowing the baby is not a crime, she didn't do anything in relation to the charge against her, so the trial is actually unfolding, the crown will be seeking to lay out a narrative to the jury to say A, B, C and D and therefore I guess E and F follows and of course the defense will be putting a different narrative to the jury. The matter is in the hands of jury."

As noted in the interview, Cahueque will have to defend herself against over 17 different witnesses that the crown will call to testify.
