posted (April 1, 2014)
Whenever the topic of climate change comes up, most people think about its negative effects, such as a rise in sea levels, the increase in average global temperatures, and changing weather patterns. But the Climate Change experts want to attract investment where entrepreneurs act responsibly in relation to their carbon footprint.

With that in mind, the members the public and private sectors met along with international consultants for a 2 day validation workshop to outline an investor's Guide tailored to Belize for Mitigation and Carbon Markets.

Today, 7News dropped by for the first day of the workshop, and we spoke with the organizers about the topics to be discussed:

Ann Gordon
"Considering developing our low carbon development strategy. What that means is that it's a strategic plan that is country led that seeks to promote climate economic growth meaning that we are looking at ways to achieve economic growth in a climate friendly way and at the same time keeping our emissions low and so that is what we are doing right now. We have hired a consultancy South Core to assist us to develop a portfolio of mitigation project. Those are projects that are reducing projects and we had focus on the energy sector and also the waste sector."

The workshop, which is funded by European Union, continues tomorrow.
