Merchants Complain About Sixth Street
posted (April 1, 2014)
Sixth Street is one of the busiest streets in the Kings Park area of Belize city. Now that it's been paved, it's been getting a lot more traffic by drivers who want to access the budget supermarkets such as K-Park Williams and Twins. But the City Council has other plans - it has turned sixth street into a one way thoroughfare. That's frustrating business owners who say they are losing money because of the reduction in traffic flow. Today we spoke with one of the representatives of K-Park about it:..

Vishal Talreja, K-Park employee
"They don't want to turn around. The customers are upset too much because of the one way street. People like K-Park because we give you good service that why the people like K-Park. I am losing businesses because the customers are upset of the one way street. They have a traffic police man right here." Its not only us but other supermarket have the same problems."

Monica Bodden
"Tell us about the petition that you guys had customers signed?"

Vishal Talreja, K-Park employee
"The customers signed because they don't like the one way street."

Monica Bodden
"Who told you to put a petition?"

Vishal Talreja, K-Park employee
"My boss."

Monica Bodden
"So far how many signatures?"

Vishal Talreja, K-Park employee
"Like 250-300 signatures."

K-Park has taken those customers' signatures to the Mayor in hopes that he would consider turning back 6th Street into a two way street. In the meanwhile vandalism by unknown persons continues as they have twice sprayed the no entry sign black.
